The European Cultural Foundation [ECF] is an independent Dutch foundation, which has been a staunch supporter of culture in Europe for the past 60 years. They believe that culture is at the heart of the European project and that it engages and inspires people. They state that culture challenges stereotypes and transcends boundaries and that it is exactly these kind of responses which are needed to create the open, inclusive and democratic society, which Europe needs.
To help promote European culture, the ECF provides targeted grants and works with partner associations on two main topics: Youth & Media and the European Neighbourhood.
The ECF also honours artists and thinkers whose work shows the potential of Europe’s cultural diversity with the annual ECF Princess Margriet Award.
One of the reasons why the ECF can afford to provide so much support to so many worthy cultural ventures is the financial support it enjoys, stemming from its long-term and fruitful collaboration with the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds [Prince Bernhard Cultural Fund].
