The Academy of Ideas is a forum for intelligent and lively public debate of complex social issues: a new academy for ideas in the UK and internationally. It challenges orthodoxy and prejudice, not for the sake of it, but because people are more than capable of deciding things for themselves.
In the face of these challenges, the Institute of Ideas’ purpose is to make virtues of free-thinking and dissent and spark public conversations on the key issues facing society. It seeks to foster an atmosphere of intellectual freedom and an open-ended exploration of the ideas which are shaping policy and culture. Above all, its mission is to train a new generation of public intellectuals.
Expanding the boundaries of public debate
The Academy of Ideas hosts a yearly two-day festival, (the Battle of Ideas), an acclaimed Sixth Form debating competition (Debating Matters), and an initiative (The Academy), committed to demonstrating the value of scholarship.
